My dear friend Traci posted a wonderful blog entry yesterday about The Simple Joys in life. It got me thinking about my gratitude journal. I started it years ago and got away from it. Then after a conversation at church one evening a few weeks ago I decided to get it back out again. Actually I never moved it; it’s been in my nightstand since I started it.
It’s the perfect way to end the day; right before I go to sleep each night I pull the journal out and write down one thing I’m grateful for that day or always. It can be as broad as being grateful for my amazing family or as simple as finding a really close parking spot at the grocery since my knees are killing me that day. Whatever it is, I write it down and reflect on it, even if just for a moment. So no matter how god-awful my day was, no matter how cranky I am, or tired, I have something happy to focus on before I go to sleep. Traci’s post made me think about maybe adding in a simple joy with my daily gratitude.
It’s such a simple thing to do, but it’s helped me in so many ways. Helps me sleep better and let go of all that useless negativity at least for a little while.
