The year of other people

As I’ve mentioned before, my goal for this year is to do more selfless acts and also make more crochet projects for charity. I’ve been making my squares for the Healing Blanket group I belong to. And now I’m super excited that I found a local organization called Kids ‘n Kamp for children with cancer. ( I’ve emailed back and forth a bit with the executive assistant there regarding donations. They are so very excited to hear from me and learn that I am donating some hats and scarves to them. I am hoping to make a trip up there next week to drop off my donations, and to continue to make some hats for them throughout the year.

Also, the hair party is drawing closer. I have not set a firm date yet but I am leaning towards March 19th. For those of you who do not remember, I am hosting a party to cut off my 15 inch pony tail to donate to Pantene’s program “Beautiful Lengths”. ( So far I have one other friend cutting her hair as well. I’m making it a party in memory of my Godmother, Sharon Hemmeler who died March 31, 2008 of breast cancer. Everyone is invited and I will be collecting monetary donations as well for those interested in helping out that do not have hair to donate.

So that’s my 2011. Theatre will be taking a backseat for awhile, too. So I can focus on volunteering and working on charity projects. Then maybe for 2012, I’ll be selfish again. I mean the worlds gonna end anyway right? :P

  1. I'm super excited about helping! I'm working on squares too.

Also, I can't do my hair cutting until after the wedding. But after that, I'm in!

  2. Sounds like you have a wonderful plan!

  3. March 19th sounds fantastic for me. As I mentioned last week, my hair is getting annoyingly long. I can't wait.

  4. I grew a ponytail for Beautiful Lengths. Had it cut off a couple of years ago. I'm slowly getting more natural highlights in it so it needed to be done if it was going to happen. I know now that I have no business ever letting my hair get that long again.

I do not regret it at all. It was one of the most exciting things I have ever done. My friend who cut my hair that day asked me how long I wanted my hair to be when he finished and I told him that I didn't care how long it was, just be sure he cut at least 8 inches off.
