The Shawl, part 1

Ok, this is going to be my first blog-along project.  But I'm kind of excited because this is going to be my first attempt at making my own pattern from scratch for something bigger than a purse or a scarf.

I saw a picture of the most amazing shawl on Ravelry that someone made and I was dying to try it.  But I thought, that looks kind of simple and maybe I'll add my own bit to it.  So I'm going to use pictures of it as a guide and kind of make it up as I go.  Heh.  But unlike any other creations i've done, this time I'm going to finally WRITE IT DOWN AS I GO.  So, I can have a pattern when I'm done.

The shawl in question is this:

Gorgeous, right?!  I went shopping for just the right thread.  I opted to go a bit larger than laceweight and went with a sockweight yarn.  Are you ready for this?

In the "ruby red".  Hell if I'm doing this, I'm going all out.  It's bright, bright red with red sparkle in it.  SPARKLES MOM!!

So, I'll take pictures as I go and mark progress. I'm starting with 5 skeins of this yarn and a size F hook.

Here we go!
