A great weekend

Had a great weekend.  Friday-Saturday was “Wedding 24!”  Much like the 24 hour shows we do at MadLab from time to time (write, cast, direct and perform a play in 24 hours) we had a wedding 24!  Two very close friends who met at the Lab and are on the Ensemble and Board opted to do a wedding in this style.

We pulled names from a hat and were placed into committees. I was on the food/cake/beverage/booze committee.  There were 6 of us, so from there we separated our committee a bit more. 2 people made the cakes; the groom’s cake and the “real” cake.  Ric and I got all the booze, 2 people did a bulk of the food, but we all prepared some food. That was fun, trying to cook and get dressed at the same time. Heh. It was a lot of rushing, but it all paid off.

Now the wedding itself.  I don’t know where to begin.  It was the most amazing collaborative effort I’ve seen. In just a few short hours we put together what was by far one of my favorite weddings of all time. I’m not a huge fan of traditional weddings. They’re cool and all, but I like something a little different and more unique the couple. And this was by far the perfect wedding for these two. And my god, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a couple this HAPPY. These two are just as ridiculously happy as two people can get. I admit it, I cried openly during the ceremony. Then again, I cry at Hallmark commercials. Regardless. The ceremony was fun, funny, happy, silly, sweet, romantic, and everything else as wedding could be.  They wrote their own vows.  Or actually they both came up with them on the spot.
They also chose several off-beat traditions from around the world to incorporate into the ceremony. I think my favorite was circling of the couple with a coconut.  (A ritual from India)

Obviously the reception was fantastic.  We danced and laughed and had an all over great time.  One of Chris’ favorite bands (And one I just LOVE) performed.  Poophouse Riley.  They were great.

Sunday Bren and I did a whole lot of nothing.  Watched some shows on DVD, napped, had a small lunch and napped some more.  That was pretty much the entire day right there.

All in all, a great weekend.
